Land Rover vs. Ox and cart
While in Ndori, a bush bush outreach, we travelled to several rural schools.  They often took a long time to get there walking so we piled into the land rover to brave the “roads.”  On the Nile the command before tackling a class five rapid is “hold on get down!”  (basically –don’t fall out of the boat).  This is also what could be heard numerous times on the trek from home to school. However this does not provide a solution when you come head on with a team of oxen pulling a wide load.  When you are pretty much bushwhacking to begin with there isn’t any room for passing.  After sitting at a stand still wondering what will come of us we decided to back up and let the cart pull into the maize field on the side.  Of course this was a favor because we have a reverse gear, I highly doubt an ox with horns that size would.  As a thankful gesture, the cart drivers pulled four stalks of sugar cane from the cart and passed them through the window.  A nice light snack 🙂
